Course Description
In the eighth grade science class, students will use the scientific method to observe and analyze the behavior of objects, collect data, predict outcomes, and draw conclusions. The major areas of study will be physical science, earth & space science, and life science. Students will examine the physical world around them through the study of forces, motion, and energy; explore the interdependence of living things and changes in ecosystems over time; and understand the place of the earth in the solar system and changes in the earth’s composition and topography over time. They will explore these concepts individually as well as in teams through various laboratory exercises. While exploring these concepts, they will gain skills in organization, problem solving, and critical thinking.
Student Expectations
Student expectations include: coming to class prepared with textbooks, binders, writing utensils, homework, and agendas; paying attention and taking notes; participating in class discussions; recording assignments; studying for tests and quizzes; and completing coursework resulting from absences.
